Overview
Saurashtra, also known as Kathiawar, is a peninsular region of Gujarat, India, located on the Arabian Sea coast. It covers about a third of Gujarat state with 11 districts including Rajkot. Tour Saurashtra starts in Mumbai, a city which never sleeps. The city derived its name from Mumbadevi, a goddess of native Koli (fishermen) community. Mumbai has been considered as the financial capital of Maharashtra and plays a pivotal role in Indian economics and politics.
Vadodara is famous for Patola silk sarees, Bandhnis and traditional ghagras, Embroidered quilts, Bangles, Khadi, Jewellery. This city is known for the famous Lakshmi Vilas Palace which is the residence of state's Maratha Royal Family. Gujarat is now known for the Statue of Unity with the world’s tallest statue with a height of 182 meters. Ambaji is yet another place where pilgrims visit throughout the year. The shrine of Shri Amba is regarded as a revered shrine by the Shakta Shaktism sect of Hinduism. It is believed that the Heart of Sati Devi has fallen here. The origin of the Shakti Peetha status temple is from the mythology of Daksha yaga and Sati's self-immolation.
Ahmedabad is the financial capital of Gujarat. Famous Gandhi Ashram is located in the city along with few other attractions and places of historical importance. Dwaraka the then capital of Gurarat with long standing history and culture that dates back to the times of Mahabharat (the great war believed to be fought between Good and Bad). Somnath is a magnificent temple situated in Sagar Kant of Saurashtra in Gujarat state. One of the 12 holy Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva is in Jyotirlinga here in Somnath.
Junagarh, a gateway to the Somnath Temple and the famous Gir National Park. The Saurashtra tour concludes in Mumbai with a visit to the famous Bollywood.
